At the weekend, Floyd Mayweather fought Victor Ortiz in a match that ended up probably the most controversial boxing fight of the year. Mayweather kicked Ortiz out with what many called a "cheap shot". I would have to agree. Then to top it off, accused HBO legend and boxing presenter Larry Merchant of "not knowing shit about boxing" (you can watch the row above).
Coming back to the actual KO, Mayweather should have stepped back. It was all rather confusing but Ortiz clearly wasn't ready and it wasn't clear whether the referee had officially restarted the fight.I reckon Mayweather knew that was the case and just taking advantage.
The row between Merchant and Mayweather I thought was disgraceful. Merchant was just doing a normal interview and reflecting the general consensus which was that Mayweather's punch probably was a cheap shot, and Mayweather starts saying that Merchant should be fired. I previously thought that Mayweather was rather respectable but after that he's dropped down a level in my eyes. He now belongs with the likes of David Haye. People who have no manners.
Good for Larry Merchant though, at least he had the balls to defend himself, unlike many other ring presenters. "If I was 50, years younger I'd kick you ass". I'm sure you would Larry, in fact you'd destroy him (no sarcasm intended).
