Some players stop playing football at 33. Some at 35. Heck, there are some who go on till their 40. But Steve Claridge beats the lot. 45, and he's just come out retirement to play for non-league side Gosport Borough. I really respect and admire people like that. It shows that they have a true passion for the game which so many players today lack. He keeps super fit, and has already scored two goals in two appearances.
I think players who keep on playing deserve more credit. It really is quite rare for an outfield player to play beyond 40. The one world class player who did was Roger Milla for Cameroon. He made a World Cup appearance and scored aged 42. I doubt that will ever be beaten, especially nowadays.
Still, I hope the odd player keeps playing. Ryan Giggs for example is somebody who I think could, whether he wants to is a different question. Even as an Arsenal fan, seeing Giggsy outlast Ferguson would be something special. Other players, like Brad Friedel also show no signs of retiring, even though he's already 40.
As far as I'm concerned, if the body allows you to continue, you should.
