England. They, I can't deny it, played way better than against Hungary. Still there are several things I would like to point out. Firstly, Wayne Rooney, for me, is no longer a striker. He can't score anymore. What he can do though is pick out the most perfect passes. I think that he should become a full time attacking midfielder. Like that, he can fully use his passing skills and if he wants, he can sometimes come forward to have shots on goal.
Also, I think that Jermain Defoe is very good, going on excellent, but if it were me, I would still put Peter Crouch alone up front. Defoe is exactly 1.70m, which in all honesty, is small so he is not at all suited to the long ball onto the head, which, usually, is what England end up doing. This is not an insult, it's true.
I think that my ideal England squad is quite strange to most people but still here it is. Keep in mind, this is disregarding any injuries or suspensions.
James
Gibbs Terry King G. Johnson
Milner Lampard Gerrard(C) Walcott
Rooney
Crouch
I bet "Are you crazy?" is the first thing you're thinking as you read this, but I have my explanations. In my opinion, A.Cole is a good player but in the dressing room, he's unpleasant. Gibbs is young, driven and runs like hell. Ferdinand, although he's normally the captain, I don't like as a player. He's a thug. And although he's a big part morally of the England set up, I prefer King's technical ability. And of course: I left out Hart. I think he's a great keeper, he's amazing but I like James. I think that he should play until he retires. It's nearly the end of his career and just for two or so years, then I'm all for Hart coming in.
Today though, I still think that England, sadly, no matter what, have not got what it takes to win a major competition. I do think however that if they win the bid for the 2018 World Cup, they can easily go on and win that with the home support.
