Football Manager: Top Tips

I haven't had the greatest weekend football wise, with Arsenal and AC Milan drawing and Oxford United losing. I was at the Oxford United game yesterday, which makes it worse. Anyway I thought I'd give you in this first short post of the day my top ten five tips for Football Manager:

1) Always save your game regularly. I can't tell you how many times it'a quit unexpectedly on me, and it's really annoying to know that you've lost everything.

2) You have to vary your tactics. Not every game, just maybe once every five games change tactics. Your opponents get used to your tactics and eventually learn how to play the weaknesses.

3) When planning your tactics, make sure there are no big holes that are unfilled. eg. A 4-4-2 diamond where you play wingers so you get gaps in the middle. What I have done to overcome this problem is to, instead of playing wingers, play central midfielders but set their runs out to the wing. It works for me.

4) This one is very useful. Let's say you need a right winger but you don't have one available, and you can't for whatever reason, sign any more players. All you have to do is choose a player who already plays is a position that's reasonably close to right wing eg right back, then go to his page and select training overview. Here you will have the option to train him for a new position (right winger). It saves you money!

5) Choose your tactic. Choose something that works for you. Not all "good" tactics you find on the internet are guaranteed to work. You have to find something that works for you.
